TNC26 in Helsinki - Tuesday 9/6-2026 | Pictures from the other days |

The (first) high point of the conference is the FileSender BoF

No matter where you go in the world, there are always a few Dutch
tourists. An example that this is also the case in the NREN world,
is the Filesender steering committee: Jan Meijer, SIKT

A comment from Richard Freitag, SUNET.

A new addition to FileSender is is proposed to be piloted.
Transfer between servers
instead of between persons. Very promising.

In the break, there is a gathering at the PCSS booth to promote the
Baltic Fibre Gate project

The opening session of TNC26 starts with a prompt - what else these
days?

...and a musical feature that really combines Finnish authenticity with
technology at a high artistic level, using song, the origianl
instrumment kantele and the fabulous organ of the Muusikkitalo.

A welcoming address from the host: Kimmo Koski, CEO of CSC.

A welcoming speech via video fraom commissioner Hanna Virkunen

Lise Fuhr
(GÉANT CEO)
and Gilles Massen (GÉANT Chairman) are welcoming the crowd. This
is the start
of a trend at TNC: Speakers appear in pairs on stage

This year, the community award has multiplied into three awards,
presented by Charlie van Genuchten from SURF.

It is time for the Vietsch medal, the committee of which has also joined
the
inflation trend and is this year handing out two medals. Then are,
however, both
extremely well deserved.

Marko Bonac (ARNES) for his many years of service to the community. In
particular, he has been the creator of the GÉANT cost sharing
model.

The other Vietsch medal, presented by trustee Pekka Kahkipuro, ...

...is awarded to the URAN NREN as an organization. Yevhenii
Preobrazhenskyi, head of the NREN thanks for the honour and recognition
via a pre-recorded video.

Just like last year, a video featuring Kamila from the GÉANT
marketing team,
gives an introduction to the venue.

People@TNC: Sonja Filiposka and Anastas Mishev from North Macedonia

Esizabeth Greenfiels and Alix Fontaine from SUNET

Anders Sjöström from Lund University

Jean Pierre Aerts from Belnet, who has exchanged his favourite beer with a glass of water

Just like silent disco, there are lectures in all breaks where the
audience
is wearing headphones

All the time, both during breaks and sessions, something is going on at
the Community Hub

The next session is chaired by Niel Shewry, Director of Networks at
Jisc, who introduces the pair of speakers

The next speakers also come in pairs

The last speaker in this session is, however, alon on stage:
Sonja Filiposka from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in North
Macedonia.

Vegard Moen from SIKT in Norway

The impressive display arrangement in the main conference hall. The gyus from PCSS and NORDUnet have
once again set new standards for TNC

After the afternoon coffee break, I was at the block about NREN service desivery, chaired by Ibrahim
Jeries (GÉANT)

who presented yet another pair of speakers

Architecture slides - we love them!

Visiting the NORDUnet booth, encountering Susanne Michelsen, Stina Rudberg and Ania Goscinna-Poulsen

Some of SUNET's finest: Frida Richter, Johan Wassberg and Björn Mattsson

Leïla Dekkar (GÉANT) and junior

A couple of good colleagues from EUMETSAT: Brian Ward and Adnan Bugdaci

How many TNC'ers can you fit in an elevator to the evening party?

At the top of the Kamppi shopping centre, from where there was a good view to
the Lasipalatsi

The TNC is an international gathering, but some seem even more international than others:
Amber McEwen, head of REANNZ in New Zealand and Francis Lee Bu Sung, vice president of SingaREN in
Singapore.

From the NORDUnet office in sunny Aalborg, we have Asbjørn Strøm Manstrup

Laura Malache and Carlos Guzman, both from CEDIA, the NREN in Equador.
And then in the role as photobomber, we see Ieva Muraskiene from
NORDUnet to the right.

Ariela Herček and Nejc Ačkun from ARNES.
